The Axatse music shaker is a traditional instrument hand made in Ghana from a hollow dried gourd encased in netted seeds. It plays an important roll in Ewe music. The Ewe tribe inhabit parts of Ghana, Togo and Benin. The axatse can be hand held or hung from a cord around the neck. The seeds can be rubbed or hit on the gourd to produce different rhythms.
